Adrienne is an actress and a friend of mine from when I lived in New York. When we caught up over brunch, she told me that oftentimes in her photoshoots, the photographer over-directs and doesn’t fully allow her to convey the emotion or character she’s trying to create. So we decided to do a mini-photoshoot that allowed her greater expressive freedom. Although we had very limited time (she had a show in the afternoon and I had a plane to catch) and space (the corner of my living room), we still managed to get these:

Wendi, Chief, and Fizzy – Cambridge Lifestyle Photography
Monday, September 17th, 2012Wendi is a superwoman! This girl somehow manages to juggle getting a MBA and MPP at Harvard, work, mentoring undergraduates, a long distance relationship, and on top of all that, Chief and Fizzy, the two most adorable Corgis you’ll ever meet. When I asked her how she manages to take care of two dogs on top of all her other commitments, she told me – if you love something enough, you’ll find a way to make time for it. Words to live by indeed.
I absolutely love this photo, it looks like Chief is either trying to imitate Wendi’s hand movement or attempting to high five her.
Chief looking quite regal here.
Thanks for being such an awesome host, Wendi!

Karl – Lifestyle Shoot at Walt Disney Concert Hall
Monday, August 27th, 2012Karl is a professional dancer so we decided to do a hip hop themed photoshoot. In trying to stay away from hip hop cliches of graffiti and grunge, we picked the very modern looking Disney Concert Hall to act as our backdrop. The sleek lines of the architecture was awesome (and so was Karl!).
I swear, he must have had springs in his shoes!
And Wow can he move! It’s always incredible to see someone doing what they love, fully in their element.

Shaina – Venice Canals Lifestyle Shoot
Friday, August 10th, 2012After being in front of the camera so much, my friend Ling (who has been featured on this blog quite a few times) decided to try getting behind the camera. We brought Shaina with us to Venice Canals and did a fun little photoshoot, and I was able to give Ling some pointers as she worked.
Here’s the lil’ baby duck photographer in action.
And here are a few adorable photos I snagged on my camera.
Love the flowy dress!
Ling, we’re going to miss you. Good luck and have fun on the East Coast!
Aileen – Maternity Shoot
Friday, July 20th, 2012It’s true what they say about expecting moms glowing. See for yourself!
Adorable little Brandon just woke up from a nap here, so he was still a bit disoriented.
Then we took him to the park and put a bubble gun in his hands. Fully awake now.
I wonder what he said to her…
Aileen looks positively angelic here, all she needs is a pair of wings!

Huang Family Photoshoot – Palos Verdes
Monday, July 9th, 2012June and Singer are amazing parents and know just what to do to get Zach laughing uncontrollably. Zach was a little distracted and shy at first, but within minutes, they had him swinging through the air, pointing out helicopters, and reading and giggling through a picture book. Even though we barely had an hour for the photoshoot, we still managed to capture a whole lot of happiness.
He is the center of their world.
And another helicopter. (I think Zach looks like a little emperor here, giving out his orders!)
So what if there’s no swing set nearby, mom and dad will do.
Zach is quite ticklish and actually enjoys being tickled. He starts cracking up before the tickling starts and then asks for more!
Hayley and Tom – Ann Arbor Anniversary Shoot
Tuesday, June 26th, 2012Back in college, the three fun facts that Hayley always listed in her bio were 1) her middle name is Jimena, which is Spanish, 2) her first word was “gato”, which is Spanish for cat, and 3) she has a boyfriend named Tom. These two high school sweethearts have really come a long way. Despite the fact that she was a Wolverine and he had decided to be a Spartan, and both carried intense engineering course-loads, they still managed to stay committed to each other through it all.
This past week, we decided to do a fun little photoshoot around Ann Arbor to celebrate their upcoming two year anniversary as husband and wife.
Reflections are pretty awesome.
After wandering around Central Campus, we went up to their apartment so they could do a quick outfit change and bring out the dog. The greener, grassier setting around North Campus was perfect for Hayley and Tom, who are both very outdoorsy people. We had managed to squeeze in the photoshoot right before they headed out for a long weekend camping trip.
Penny does not like to be left out.
Family portrait. And Penny makes three.
She’s shy. Penny is the most childlike dog I’ve ever met. I tried to get a close-up shot of her and scared her a little, so she scampered off to hide behind Tom’s leg and peeked out at me.
We were racing against daylight by the time we got to North Campus, but thank goodness for the long summer days, because we ended up getting the perfect sunset.

Catherine – CSUN Graduation Lifestyle Shoot
Wednesday, June 6th, 2012Catherine just graduated from CSUN and decided to celebrate this important milestone in her life with a fabulous photoshoot.
Now, this girl is a singer! When we were discussing how we wanted to do her photoshoot, she sent me a link to one of her recordings and I was floored by how lovely and whimsical her voice is! Of course, we had to incorporate her music into the photoshoot. Then she told me that she wanted to show her quirky side, and immediately, I felt like I was handed a blank check for creativity. Oh, the possibilities! This definitely turned out to be one of the most fun photoshoots I’ve ever done.
Because her voice is so light and fun, I wanted to photograph her surrounded by a halo of sunshine. We also got lucky because the day was just breezy enough that every once in awhile, it would catch her hair. I love the way she glows in these photos!
And then we brought out the purple Converses!
Winter in June in Southern California! Adorable!
I love this shot, it looks like a painting. Reminds me a little of the Mona Lisa.
Catherine also brought her family along with her so we got a few shots of her and her husband, parents, and sister.
They’ve been married for two years and they still look as happy as newlyweds!
Catherine and her sister are almost 10 years apart, but they’re still so close!
Pretty genes run in the family!

Flo – Sacramento Lifestyle Shoot
Wednesday, May 30th, 2012Flo is one of my favorite people in the world! We went to Michigan together (me for undergrad and Flo for her Ph.D.) and lived in the same house. She is one of the most generous and wisest people I know, and was (is) a constant source of good advice. A number of other housemates and I referred to her as “Mama Flo.” I hadn’t seen Flo for quite a few years since I graduated, so I was super excited to be able to make it up to Sacramento last week to see her!
She has an amazing wardrobe, which we fully took advantage of and did many outfit changes.
We spent an afternoon at the wineries in Amador, and Flo was right, it’s better than Napa Valley.
