Katherine and Matt, Engaged! – Harvard Engagement Photography

Monday, September 24th, 2012

When talking to Katherine and Matt about their engagement, I can’t help but be reminded of the quote from When Harry Met Sally – “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible”.  They met last year at Harvard Business School.  Both were enrolled in a class that assigned all the students to write out where they saw themselves in 10 years, then they traded and read each others plans, and saw each other in them.  These two are proof that when you meet the right person, you just know.

Matt was one of my closest friends from college and throughout the years that I’ve known him, I can honestly say, I have never seen him as happy as he is here, with Katherine in his arms.

They’re a pair made in goofball heaven.

Congratulations Katherine and Matt!  Can’t wait to see you two in December!

Emilia and Khizar, Engaged! – A University of Michigan Love Story

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

They met through mutual friends their freshmen year at the University of Michigan.  Emilia grew up in Poland and Khizar grew up in Pakistan, so they bonded over being international students.  It wasn’t until she returned from a year study abroad in Germany her Junior year that they finally started dating, and they’ve been together ever since.

I’m so excited to share this engagement shoot here.  Emilia and Khizar are the most adorable couple, and full of energy.  It was so readily apparent how in love and how comfortable with each other they were when I saw them together, and even more apparent when they seemed to keep forgetting that I was there with a camera (which is precisely what I want!).

Emilia has very impressive climbing skills.  We walked out of the law quad, and I turned around and she had climbed onto the windowsill above, she makes it look easy, but it was 1) pretty far off the ground and 2) extremely slanted.  Skills, I tell you.

We then found a few big sculptures around Central Campus for Emilia to climb.

A little bit of a height difference makes for an adorable photo!

This was taken at their special place near the Diag.  One day, Khizar had waited for Emilia to get our of class with a dandelion in hand.

Walking on air!

We really wanted to incorporate more nature into the photos, so we may or may not have hopped a fence to get onto the Martha Cook lawn to get these shots.

Congratulations Emilia and Khizar!

Lynn and Chris – Arnold Arboretum Engagement

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

A week after photographing Blair and Josh, I joined Shang for another shoot at the Arnold Arboretum, it is indeed a popular place.  The trees beautifully filtered the late afternoon light for Lynn and Chris’s lovely engagement shoot.

The sunflower was an awesome prop, adding just the right amount of pop to the image, and check out Lynn’s adorable flower hairclips, love ‘em.And they’re big foodies!

Julie and Jay – New York City Engagement

Friday, August 26th, 2011

I worked with Julie back when I was a summer intern at Morgan Stanley and had also met Jay briefly.  She’s one of the sweetest people I know, and I was so thrilled to hear earlier this summer that the two got engaged.  When Julie found out that I was pursuing a career in photography, she hired me to photograph her engagement party and became Amy Bao Photography’s first official client!

Julie picked the High Line and West Village for their engagement shoot and we started practically at the crack of dawn.  The morning light soon after sunrise is absolutely delicious, and it’s the only time when the city is quiet so we had the High Line more or less all to ourselves.  Thanks to Julie and Jay for being such troopers and driving all the way in from New Jersey for the photoshoot!

My favorite!

Lisa and Seth – Engagement Shoot at Harvard

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

It was another typical Boston afternoon, with big angry clouds threatening to rain.  Lisa and Seth had come up from NYC to do some wedding planning and for their engagement shoot with Shang at Harvard, where Lisa and Shang went to school.  They had purchased colorful umbrellas to use as props and we were able to incorporate some beautiful puddle reflection shots into their session (I was the self-designated puddle spotter and if I still had a resume, you can bet that title would be on it.  I was very good at it if I do say so myself).  After the rain finally let up, we got a magical glowing sunset.  This goes to show that with some planning and preparation, even a rainy afternoon can set the backdrop for a lovely photoshoot (helps to have a very adorable couple too!)

Check out full coverage of this photoshoot on Shang’s blog.
